Caterham Seven RST-V8

I've always loved the Caterham Seven. Stunning looks, fantastic to drive, yet completely and utterly insane. A brilliantly mad, and uniquely British sportscar.

Now imagine a Caterham Seven that sports more than double the power-to-weight ratio of the Bugatti Veyron. Enter the suicidal Caterham RST-V8. And stop drooling.

Unmistakably a Caterham, the RST-V8 retains the classic styling of its forebears, but seriously piles on the aggression. Take a look at the triple headlight arrangements and angled mudguards for starters.

The 2.4-litre Supercharged V8 engine will kick out 500bhp and hit 150mph. I haven't spotted a 0-60mph figure for the RST-V8 just yet, but it can be expected to be a shade quicker than the blisteringly fast Seven CSR Superlight, which cracks 60mph in 3.1 seconds.

I promise you, the second I hit my mid-life crisis, I'm off to buy a Caterham. Whether or not it is the RST-V8 depends on how bad the crisis is. Or if I can come up with the £115,000 price tag. Or if I can persuade an owner of one of the seven RST-V8s to be built to part with it.

Pretty cool – although it looks a bit like an American interpretation of the 7…. Don’t know what that heavy V8 will do for the handling!!

Those headlights are not as cool as the standard single units and I don’t like the lack of chrome & windscreen (even if it was the size of a wallet..!)

I think it would go well in Batman’s cave, but give me a racing green 7 with some chrome & a Biggles-style leather helmet any day….
