Now this is my kind of party. Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is a Mexican holiday that celebrates the lives of the deceased. Instead of getting all miserable as we tend to in the West, Día de los Muertos involves festivals, food, decorating graves and general merriment.

That's what I want after I'm gone - throw a party and bring tequila to my grave (yep, they do that). With this in mind my girlfriend and I have decided from now on we'll celebrate the Day of the Dead. Starting tonight.

Sure, it will only involve fajitas and sweets this time around, but we do have the excellent decorated skulls my girlfriend sculpted. They should really be made of sugar, but we couldn't get our hands on the moulds in time. No matter, they look excellent and set the mood perfectly.

Día de los Muertos

Day of the Dead celebrations last two nights (1st and 2nd November), but travel commitments mean I'm restricted to just the one night, which I'm pretty bummed about. Still, there's always next year.

Find out more about Día de los Muertos (Wikipedia). More information on the excellent sugar skulls can be found on MexicanSugarSkull.com.
