Wait for the Wii Lightsaber is Almost Over
It isn't particularly often that I get as giddy as a schoolgirl over a computer game. The last time I even raised an eyebrow in interest at a forthcoming game was for Grand Theft Auto San Andreas, and that was several years ago now. However, the prospect of waiving my arms around like a fool in front of the television, dreaming of living a life in a galaxy far, far away, has got me all hot under the collar.
Since purchasing a Nintendo Wii some months ago, I have yet to even slightly consider buying another game for the console. I am more than content with the excellent Wii Sports that came with it. The truth is there are few games for the Wii, either available now or soon to be released, that I have any interest in forking out the best part of £40 for. Aside from the as yet unnamed Mario Kart Wii I have only had one thing on my mind since getting the Wii, and that is playing a game set in the Star Wars universe. More specifically, playing a game set in the Star Wars universe where you get to use a lightsaber.
The Wiimote controller was destined to become a lightsaber the second it was conceived, and the vast majority of the Wii community have been waiting with baited breathe for the inevitable announcement of a Star Wars game for the platform. Now, finally we have it. In spring 2008 we will be able to get our hands on Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. I have to say, it looks pretty good.

Set between the trilogies (after Revenge of the Sith and before a New Hope), you play Darth Vader's apprentice. Now that sounds good from the off. Playing a bad guy is always much more fun than playing a good guy. Especially when it comes to Star Wars since the Sith powers were always so much cooler than Jedi powers. You can't beat frying rebel-scum with that Sith Force Lightning.

For the time being we'll have to settle for a very nice looking trailer, in which the apprentice downs a Star Destroyer no less, whilst dreaming of dancing around like a prat in front of the television. At least the Wii will take care of the lightsaber sound effects for me. Imagine, if I ended up making those myself I really would look stupid.

Notes
- Nice Nike Football ad from Madonna's better half.
- Top marks for the realigned BBC News website, bringing it more in line with the lovely new, jQuery driven, BBC homepage.
Beautiful full-screen image browsing served up by the snazzy PicLens plug-in. Impressive, though practicality is debatable.- Yahoo shifts to search the
semantic web
. Potentially huge, and very welcome news for usstandards nuts
.
The Coke Zero Game. Latest masterpiece from the infuriatingly talented North Kingdom.
It's sites like the Red Bull Flight Lab that remind you what Flash is for. Brilliant application and an awful lot of fun.- Rejoice! The new Indiana Jones trailer has finally made an appearance. Can't wait.
- Help the Email Standards Project get Google's attention in the hope they will finally improve Gmail's awful rendering of HTML email.
- Awesome panoramic view of the Airbus A380 cockpit interior. This is the super-future.
- Excellent article from accessibility supremo Roger Johansson on how inappropriate, or overuse, of HTML features meant to aid accessibility can actually have the opposite effect.
